November on the Camino Francés brings mild to cool conditions that change noticeably as you progress eastward and then northward. Daytime temperatures range from around 21°C in the initial foothills of Nouvelle-Aquitaine to 11–12°C once you enter Castille and León and Galicia. Nights drop significantly colder, especially at higher elevations, with freezing temperatures possible above 1000 metres. This temperature gradient means you will experience a gradual transition from autumn to early winter rather than a sudden shock.

Rain is the defining feature of November on this route. Expect frequent wet conditions, particularly in Navarre and Galicia, where rain occurs on nearly every day of your passage. The rainfall is typically moderate rather than torrential, but the persistence means trails will be muddy and visibility reduced on exposed sections. Wind gusts can exceed 65 kilometres per hour on exposed ridgelines, adding to the challenge of maintaining balance and visibility in wet conditions.

Elevation intensifies these challenges: the approach to Foncebadón at 1426 metres brings significantly colder nights and stronger winds across open moorland, where exposure is severe. Prepare by wearing layered clothing you can adjust throughout the day, and start each stage early to reach shelter before afternoon weather deteriorates. Waterproof outer layers are essential, not optional.
