You will encounter rain on most days of your walk. Cantabria experiences rainfall on all six of its stages, while Asturias sees rain on ten out of eleven days. These are not typically heavy downpours but frequent, steady precipitation that soaks through inadequate gear. Wind gusts regularly exceed 80 kilometres per hour, particularly on exposed ridgelines and coastal sections, making even mild temperatures feel biting. Walkers must commit to genuine waterproof layers rather than water-resistant alternatives and anticipate that dawn departures will be damp and cold. Starting before sunrise means beginning your day in temperatures near freezing with wet ground underfoot. Pack insulating mid-layers and a windproof outer shell, and plan rest days in larger towns where you can dry equipment thoroughly rather than pushing through consecutive wet days.
